During today’s workshop Mark Hopewell and I revisited the potential locations for the Friendly Army. We’ll confirm the exact sites with the East Kent Railway managers in a meeting in two weeks time. I made a few collages showing how I imagine the six sculptures in their anticipated settings. Please click on the slide show below to see them.
Dragoon will stay mobile until after the DMAG event in May. It will then find a permanent home in the EKR area at Shepherdswell, or alternatively somewhere along the former (and soon new) railway tracks to Guilford. With the rolling Kentish hills as a backdrop Cross will be placed at the first farmers crossing after the Golgotha Tunnel. It will be visible from the train carriages as well as from the road that links Shepherdswell and Eythorne. Tower will patrol the public footpath and the once and future tracks from Eythorne to Guilford Colliery. Organ will stand guard at the pedestrian crossing close to the siding where the two Howitzer railway guns were stationed during World War II. Receiver will be on sonic guard at Eythorne Station, whilst Pegasus will be placed at the northern end of the remaining EKR tracks. Visible from the road it will overlook the topography of the former Tilmanstone Colliery from the top of the remaining buttress of Wigmore Lane Bridge.
