Before I visit the EKR site again to select the material for my metal creatures, here a few images of propped up structures, sculptures and other things on legs that inspired the design of The Friendly Army. Please click on the slideshow below to see a rather eclectic range of polipedes: the aerial ropeway, which once linked Tilmanstone colliery with Dover Harbour, now long gone headgear structures of the East Kent collieries, a selection of 20th century sculptures and art works, and some of my own humble attempts at the genre.
Thanks to everyone, who pointed out additional references and associations! Jacob Epstein’s Rock Drill, the tripods from H.G. Well’s War of the Worlds, and the Maunsell Sea Forts had been not on my radar before.
