I had a another grand day out in Shepherdswell yesterday. It was this year’s first open weekend at East Kent Railway and I set myself up in the Barham Signal Box to discuss my ideas for The Friendly Army with visitors, local residents and the EKR community. I got very positive responses and learned quite a few new things about the site’s history as well as its current and planned activities. If you haven’t visited yet, I urge you to go. It’s a magical place!

And it turned out to be a proper material quarry, too. Or in other words: a sculptor’s paradise. Mark Hopewell showed me one of many compounds with literally tons of steel and cast iron. I’ll go again soon, in order to identify specific pieces for the metal sculptures, which I’m planning to build with the help of the EKR volunteers.
